Thanks to its aesthetic appearance and tissue compatibility, zirconium crowns are applied for the formation of natural and healthy tooth structure. In children, zirconium crowns, which are specially produced and applied to baby teeth, can be applied after the necessary preparation for the teeth.
Caries seen in children at an early age can cause a high amount of material loss in the teeth. Pediatric zirconium crowns are applied on primary teeth that are broken or reduced in size due to fall or decay in children aged 4 years and younger. These materials are widely preferred both in terms of their high resistance to breakage and aesthetic appearance due to their white color.
Today, it is widely applied, especially in children whose anterior teeth are too rotten. In primary molars, it is preferred when healthy dental tissue is insufficient for filling. Application procedure is performed by gluing the appropriate sized zirconia crown to the tooth after the decayed tooth is cleaned and shaped with local anesthesia.
In addition to the advantages of zirconium crowns such as aesthetic appearance, resistance to breakage, other advantageous aspects are that they can be applied in a single session and do not require any additional treatment until the teeth fall out.
Root Canal and Filling Treatments
The acid in the mouth causes weakening of the tooth enamel due to reasons such as not performing oral care regularly in children, consuming too much sugary food and long-term use of baby bottles. If this situation cannot be prevented, tooth decay occurs and the teeth begin to break. Tooth sensitivity develops when the child eats sugary foods or drinks hot and cold drinks. If the dentist does not intervene at this stage, the living tissue and root in the tooth will be affected and the tooth will become inflamed. It causes throbbing pain in the child's tooth. This disrupts the child's eating pattern and restlessness occurs. Due to the rapid progression of the caries, serious swelling may occur on the child's face and cheek. When such situations occur, root canal treatment of the primary tooth becomes mandatory.
Since the tooth is anesthetized during root canal treatment, the child does not feel any pain. Treatment can be applied easily.
When root canal treatment is required for any reason, the ideal time to apply this is when the child begins to express himself and sits alone in the dental chair. In order for the child to establish a healthy communication with the dentist, he or she must be able to understand and respond to the commands given by the dentist. In other words, root canal treatment can be done from the age of 3-4 years. In cases where root canal treatment is required at a younger age, treatment can be performed in the dental chair with the support of the parent.
