Commonly known as 'Bottle Caries', it is inevitable if the baby is not properly fed and cared for after the baby's first baby tooth erupts. Contrary to its name, bottle rot is not only seen in bottle-fed babies. After the age of 1, babies who continue to feed before going to sleep at night can be seen with baby bottle bruises, even if they are fed with breast milk.
Feeding the baby with a bottle while sleeping or before going to bed causes milk to accumulate in the mouth, which causes dental plaque to rot the teeth. These cavities first start on the anterior surfaces of the incisors in the upper jaw, then spread to other teeth.
It is common in our country that all primary teeth are affected by caries due to insufficient care. If these caries are not intervened in a timely manner, rotten teeth cause pain and become inflamed. Inflammation causes the permanent teeth that will come after to become distorted. In addition, toothache causes sleep disturbances, restlessness and disrupts the feeding pattern.
Unresistant teeth in early childhood and the parents' delay to start brushing the babies’ teeth, cause insufficient oral care for baby. Therefore, babies’ mouth and teeth should be taken care of after night feeding
